About Lake Emily

There is four-wheel-drive access from Hakatere Heron Road, just south of Castleridge Station, to public conservation land near Lake Emily (3 km). It is not surfaced and is unsuitable for winter use. Vehicles can be parked on the first section of the access road. Note: Do not block access into paddocks or Castle Ridge Station.

 Lake Emily to Manuka Hut Duration: 4.5km, 1 hours 30 minutes

Lake Emily to Stour Brigde: 165km, 5 hrs

 Manuka Hut (basic 6 bunks) is a great place to take the family. There is a small stream near the hut is a fun place to play and The New Zealand falcon nest in the area.

Lake Emily is accessed from Hakatere Heron Road, about 31 km west of Mount Somers. Leave Mount Somers on Ashburton Gorge Road, then turn right into Hakatere Heron Road (23 km). Turn right again just before crossing Jacobs Stream Bridge at Castleridge Station. 2WD vehicles can park on the verge of the farm track (be considerate of other users and farm vehicles). 4WD vehicles can travel a further 1.4 km to a car park on the public conversation land.
